Adventures of An Aspiring Librarian

Off to London!

on January 23, 2014

In June 2013, I had the privilege and immense opportunity to attend a  UNC seminar in London, England.

Each year, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill works in collaboration with both the University College London in England and Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic to hold 2 week seminars on libraries and information science in Europe. I chose to attend the London seminar.

The seminar with the Information Studies department was entitled Libraries in the United Kingdom, and UNC invited students, professional librarians, and even just people with an interest in libraries in the UK to attend. We had the opportunity to attend lectures with UCL professors, take field trips to see many different kinds of libraries, and explore London and the UK on our down time.

I made wonderful friends, and the entire experience opened my eyes to different kinds of librarianship. I particularly enjoyed seeing how the libraries differed from those in the United States. I will go into detail over individual libraries in individual posts.
